Spring has arrived, and Charlestonians have one thing on their mind: water. Warmer temperatures translate to beach days, sunset boat cruises, and waterfront dining in our gorgeous coastal town.
But have you ever paused to think about water quality in our community? Water pollution is a serious issue around the globe, and Charleston, with its fragile marshes, beautiful beaches, and abundance of creeks and rivers, is no exception.
Last year’s restaurant closures and shifts in human behavior further contributed to the oyster shell shortages that plague oyster shell recycling programs.
Today we’re zeroing in on 10 powerful ways YOU can help us turn the tide on our critical oyster shell shortage and restore our essential oyster reefs.
Did you know South Carolina has a critical shortage of oyster shells? Americans consume an estimated 2.5 billion oysters each year, but only a fraction of that shell returns to our coastlines.
Toadfish is a conscientious South Carolina lifestyle brand that celebrates all the finer aspects of Lowcountry living. Through Toadfish's Put 'Em Back oyster recycling movement, they have been able to plant more than 150,342 square feet of oyster beds.

Join us as we take an in-depth look at the good and bad environmental impacts that come from eating oysters, why oyster shell recycling is so important, and the progress worldwide thanks to massive oyster reef restoration projects.
We’re stronger together: it’s one of our mantras at Grit & Grace Studio. As ocean advocates, we’re so happy to see more and more people focusing on the health of our seas, and in particular, the importance of oyster reef restoration!

Shucked, grilled, roasted, or gilded and holding your beloved jewelry, we’re simply mad about oysters. We are taking a break from painting our oyster jewelry dishes to share some of our favorite oyster facts.
Summer is our favorite season: sun-kissed skin, warm breezes, sandy toes, and the occasional margarita are our perfect recipe for joy.

Put your best foot forward (without leaving a huge carbon footprint!) with our thoughtfully curated Conscious Fashion Summer Style Guide.
We’re all about Mother Earth, as avid oyster recyclers and a sustainable business, but we also love some good news here at Grit & Grace! This Earth Day, we have lots to celebrate and consider as the world looks a little different due to social distancing and economic shutdowns.
