Cruise with Booze on a Charleston Harbor Pedal Tour

Get ready for some fun in the sun with a Charleston Harbor Pedal Tour. Hop on one of their 12 “pedal stations” (or kick back and relax at one of the bow seats) and get ready to enjoy ocean breezes and panoramic views of the Charleston Harbor and skyline with a refreshing beverage in your hand. Hey, if you pedal fast enough, it’ll actually count as exercise!

 

We’re “talon” you, the Center for Birds of Prey is a real hoot. Take a tour of their extensive raptor exhibits and be sure to attend a flight demonstration, where you’ll watch hawks, falcons, owls, eagles, kites, and vultures perform their awe-inspiring natural flying and hunting techniques. The Center for Birds of Prey is also a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that rehabilitates and releases more than 600 injured and sick birds each year, and your patronage supports their conservation work. For a truly incredible evening in the Lowcountry, attend their next Owls by Moonlight event, where you’ll enjoy wine, heavy hors d'oeuvres, and an unforgettable series of flight demonstrations.

Climb Aboard the USS Yorktown

This “hands-on history lesson” offers tours of the historic USS Yorktown, educational exhibits, and sweeping views of the Charleston Harbor and Ravenel Bridge. If you’re traveling with a group of youngsters, look into the Patriots Point Overnight Camping Program for an unforgettable experience.

Visit the Angel Oak

The majestic Angel Oak tree is estimated to be between 300-400 years old, and it is the largest live oak tree east of the Mississippi River. This colossal tree measures 65 feet high with a circumference of 25.5 feet, it shades 17,000 square feet. Known as a Lowcountry treasure, this breathtaking natural wonder inspired our elegant Angel Oak Earrings.

Soak up Some Sun at Charleston’s Beaches 

One of our favorite ways to relax is to throw a towel in our Renewable Fiber Beach Tote and head for the nearest stretch of sandy shore. Charleston offers several nearby beaches, including Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, Folly Beach, Edisto Beach, Kiawah Island, and Seabrook Island. Each place has its own unique character, and they’ve inspired our adorable Little Folly Beach Oyster Necklace, the elegant Seabrook Island Earrings, the Edisto Oyster Necklace, beautiful Kiawah Island Earrings, and the Gold Bug Necklace, inspired by Edgar Allen Poe’s short story set on Sullivan’s Island.

Home to more than 5,000 animals, the South Carolina Aquarium offers so many exciting exhibits, you’ll want to spend the day. The two-story, 385,000-gallon Great Ocean Tank lets you come nose-to-nose with sharks and a 220-pound loggerhead sea turtle. Pet stingrays at The Shallows, stroll through the Backyard Habitat exhibit, enjoy touching wildlife at the Touch Tank, and plan to spend quality time at the Sea Turtle Care Center. The South Carolina Aquarium partners with SCDNR to heal, rehabilitate, and release sick and injured sea turtles (whenever possible), and Grit & Grace Studio is proud to support their efforts as members of their Sea Turtle Guardian program.

Take a Long Walk on the Beach at Botany Bay

Stunning driftwood trees line the sandy shores of Botany Bay, also lovingly called Boneyard Beach. Located on Edisto Island, the Botany Bay Plantation Wildlife Management Area boasts 3,363 acres of maritime forest, beach, freshwater ponds, and significant historical buildings. Be sure to check the tides before you go, as parts of the beach are impassable at high tide.

Paddle Shem Creek

Shem Creek is beloved by locals and visitors alike for its scenic shrimp boats, natural beauty, dolphin sightings, and lively waterfront restaurants and bars. Spend the day paddling Charleston’s iconic marshes and waterways, or head out on the open water with a guided kayak or SUP tour with Coastal Expeditions.

 

Is there a better way to wrap up a full day sightseeing than watching the sunset over the ocean’s waves? Yes, watching that sunset from a sailboat on the Charleston Harbor with a glass of wine in your hand. The Schooner Pride is an authentic (and Instagram-worthy) three-mast tall ship that measures 84 feet and can comfortably welcome up to 49 passengers for each 2-hour sunset sail. 

 

Take an Eco-tour

Spend a day on the water soaking up Charleston’s incredible wildlife and rich ecosystems with an eco-tour from Charleston Outdoor Adventures.

If you’re really lucky, you’ll get to witness our local bottlenose dolphins strand feeding from a respectful, safe distance.

This unique hunting technique has only been observed in this area of the world!

Whatever you’re interested in, there’s a Charleston County Park for that. Ready to try rock climbing or a challenge course? Head to the James Island County Park. Looking for a kid-friendly waterpark? Palmetto County Park is your spot. Want to snap some epic shots? The Lighthouse Heritage Preserve has great views of the Morris Island Lighthouse. Dying to dust off that skateboard? SK8 Charleston offers a 200-foot snake run with a 9-foot deep pocket, a 315 street course, a pro bowl, an intermediate bowl, a viewing deck, and a skate shop.

 

Catch a Ride on the Charleston Water Taxi

Sometimes the journey is the destination, and you’ll have a blast on the Charleston Water Taxi. This local ferry service offers stops by the South Carolina Aquarium, the USS Yorktown, and the Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina. All-day passes are available for $12 per person.

Take an Art Walk

Charleston’s French Quarter is known for its romantic cobblestone streets, hidden alleyways, and phenomenal art galleries. Check the Charleston Gallery Association website for the latest updates on their First Saturday Strolls and First Friday Artwalks or strike out on your own and wander from gallery to gallery with your love. Be sure to duck into Robert Lange Studios, the Grand Bohemian Gallery, and Horton Hayes Fine Art.

Step Back in Time at a Charleston Historic Site

Charleston is steeped in a rich, complex history, and there are many beautiful and educational historic sites to visit. Home museums, Native American shell mounds, Civil War-era educational sites, expansive gardens, and historic churches and cathedrals are just a sampling of the many tourist attractions around the Lowcountry.

Lose Yourself in Cypress Gardens

The 3.5 miles of scenic swamp and garden trails at Cypress Gardens are so beautiful, you may recognize them from the likes of such movies as The Notebook, Cold Mountain, and The Patriot. Visitors can also rent a swamp boat and paddle a marked trail in hopes of spotting alligators, turtles, and birds, or the less adventurous may enjoy the Butterfly House or Swamparium exhibits.

The Mount Pleasant Pier is the perfect place to soak up a sunset while arm-in-arm with your sweetie. Located at the base of the iconic Ravenel Bridge, the 1250-foot Mount Pleasant Pier is part of the Memorial Waterfront Park complex. Enjoy an afternoon fishing from the pier, lounge in the swings or rocking chairs, and grab a sandwich or smoothie at the River Watch cafe.

Go to a Show 

Performance art has deep roots in the Lowcountry, and there are so many opportunities to catch a show during your visit. Spend an evening at the magnificent Dock Street Theatre with Charleston Stage, check out the latest happenings at the Gaillard Center, or snag tickets to a Pure Theatre, Footlight Players, or Theatre 99 show. In the mood for something light and interactive? The Black Fedora Comedy Mystery Theatre is sure to be a barrel of laughs.

Scare yourself silly on a Charleston ghost tour. Nightly ghost tours escort visitors through the moonlight cobblestone streets and moss-laden cemeteries while relaying spooky stories, legendary hauntings, and historical facts. Choose from one of Bull Dog Tour’s frightening adventures, like a tour of the Old City Jail (allegedly the most haunted building in the United States), a Ghost and Dungeon experience, or even a haunted pub crawl (did someone say… boo-ze?).

Support Charleston’s community of talented musicians with a relaxing evening of live music. Head to Forte Jazz Lounge for wine and tunes, or check out one of the many fine-dining establishments with jazz, such as the Charleston Grill. The Charleston Music Hall hosts events ranging from drag shows to country acts to big band concerts, and you can check the calendar for The Bend for a chill outdoor experience. Hit the Charleston Pour House to rock out to local and regional acts on their deck and indoor space.

 

Go Bowling at The Alley

Looking for something fun to do with a group? Drop by The Alley, the only bowling and arcade spot in downtown Charleston. The Alley boasts 8 bowling lanes, 3 bars, and a bunch of arcade games, including Galaga, Ms. Pac-Man, NBA Jam, Skee Ball, Hoop Fever, and pinball machines. They serve loaded tater tots and pizza spring rolls if you need to refuel between games!
