Grit & Grace Studio 2020 Recap

It has been such a busy year here at Grit & Grace Studio. We are taking a moment to reflect (and burn some sage) as we sail into this new year, and we are blessed and grateful for so many things.

Today we're recognizing our blessings and sharing our joys and triumphs with you: we could not have achieved these victories without your continued love and support of our small business.

Though 2020 was a notoriously challenging year, our sweet family pulled together to continually adjust the sails and bring our ship safely to port.

We are moving into the new year feeling grounded in our bonds of sisterhood, inspired by the strength of our Grit & Grace Studio family, grateful for your patronage, hopeful for the future, and eager to continue our work giving back to the world.

Grit & Grace Studio Recap: 2020

Grammy Win for Ranky Tanky

We started this year off on such a high note, crying happy tears and raising a glass to celebrate a Grammy win for our beloved Ranky Tanky. Ranky Tanky received the Grammy for Best Regional Roots Album for their album Good Time, and we could not be more proud of these sweet souls we call family and their well-deserved recognition for the Gullah people.

New Products

The world was our oyster in 2020, and we unveiled so many beautiful new products as we hustled to ride out last year’s waves. Our Gilded Oyster Garland sold out entirely during its first run, for which we are overwhelmed with gratitude, and the matching Gilded Oyster Wreath (available in-store only) is a studio favorite.

We also introduced new Holiday Oyster Ornaments, Decoupage Oyster Ornaments and Napkin Rings, and our beloved Decoupage Blessing Beads, which are the perfect housewarming, hostess, or baby shower gift.

Last but certainly not least, we welcomed new additions to our Lowcountry jewelry collection: two new styles of the Mala Mantra Necklace, the Kiawah Island Earrings, Seabrook Earrings, and our gorgeous, inspiring Ocean Earrings Collection

New Grit & Grace Studio Staff Members

Perhaps one of our proudest accomplishments is the addition of 8 new staff members in 2020.

Your patronage allowed us to keep on all of our existing Grit & Grace Family during these economically challenging times.

We also were able to welcome Stevie, Elisa, Ed, Shelley, Reese, Melissa, Kelly, and Jake.

Your love and support directly impacted and helped support an impressive 15 households this year, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Two American Way Covers

Keep an eye out for Grit & Grace Studio as you jet off to your next dream vacation!

We are still giddy to have been featured not once but twice on the cover of American Way, American Airlines’ magazine.

We loved taking the time to highlight some of our Charleston favorites, including delicious tapas at Malagón, retail heaven Ro Sham Beaux, Candlefish’s artisan creations, and all the buttery goodness at Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit.

New Green Initiatives

Grit & Grace Studio is proud to have added even more green initiatives to our existing in-house oyster recycling program during this last year. In addition to collecting and recycling oyster shells from Charleston area restaurants and integrating them into local oyster reef restoration efforts, we regularly volunteered with SCDNR to sort litter from the oyster recycling stores and partnered with Surfrider for coastal cleanups. Finally, we are thrilled to have integrated composting into our studio workflow.

Giving Back

Giving back remains at the heart of Grit & Grace Studio, and we loved donating to a number of non-profit groups and charitable organizations during 2020. It was our honor to partner with Real Champions, Inc., with Surfrider for litter cleanups and to volunteer with SCDNR.

We also gave back through donations to the Warrior Surf Foundation raffle, Real Champions, Inc., the Kickin' Cancer 4 Kids auction, the JDRF Hope Gala Auction, Spoleto's Charleston welcome baskets, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Annual Students of the Year Campaign.

The Mala Workshop

This one is so dear to our hearts: last year, we launched the Mala Workshop, a creative, transformational Charleston event. Gather your tribe and join us for a meditative, spiritual workshop where you will celebrate the bonds of sisterhood and craft your own gorgeous Mala Mantra Necklace. We offer both individual seats at our community table or customized group workshops, so choose the experience to best launch your journey.

The Grit & Grace Cottage

Come stay with us! We launched the beautiful Grit & Grace Cottage last fall, and we cannot wait to host you during your next vacation or staycation. This adorable and historic cottage is in the heart of downtown Charleston, only minutes from the Grit & Grace Studio Flagship store.

New Website Design

The Grit & Grace Studio website got a whole new look and vibe. As more of our loyal customers moved to online shopping last year, we happily adjusted the sails to provide our patrons with a cleaner, faster, elegant, and more customized experience.

Welcomed Two Babies

The Grit & Grace Family grew by two this year! Our Director of Operations, Gail, gave birth to sweet Bear this December, and our marketing guru Melissa welcomed darling baby Josie John over the summer. Congrats to these inspiring mamas!

Grit & Grace Marketing Department

Grit & Grace Studio added a marketing department to help keep us trucking along last year!

Between creating the Grit & Grace blog, revamping our website, refining our product descriptions, and launching the Grit & Grace Newsletter, this team has been invaluable in helping us weather the storms of 2020 and create pearls from any obstacle.
